This page sets out what Alderviq records about the people who read it, why, and what you can ask to be done about it. The site is run from Tasmania for readers in Australia, under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Who is responsible
Alderviq (alderviq.com) is published by Thomas Evans, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Anything on this page, including a request to see or correct what is held about you, goes to [email protected].
What gets recorded
- Delivery logs. The hosting provider and the content delivery network in front of the site record the IP address, the page requested, the time of the request, the referring page and the browser user agent. These records exist so the site can be served and so abuse can be investigated.
- Your answer to the cookie notice. Stored in your own browser, on your own device, so the notice is not shown on every page. It never reaches the server.
- What you send through the contact form or by email. Your name, your email address, a phone number if you choose to add one, and your message, held for as long as the correspondence needs it.
- Your notification subscription. If you allow browser notifications, OneSignal stores a subscription identifier for your browser, together with the email address, name and any phone number you entered on the form. It exists so a reply and later updates can reach you, and it disappears when you unsubscribe or clear the site data.
There are no accounts on this site and no profiling. The only list is the notification list you can join yourself by ticking the box on a form; a phone number is optional and never required. Nothing here asks for a postal address or a date of birth, and the site is not directed at children.
Why it is held
- To keep the site available, correct and secure, which is the ordinary operating interest of anyone publishing a website.
- To answer correspondence that you start.
- To meet a legal obligation where one applies to a particular record.
Measurement and advertising cookies are only set if you accept them in the notice. Declining leaves every page fully readable; nothing is withheld behind consent.
The two forms
There are two forms: one on the contact page and one on the handbook page. Both collect a name, an email address, an optional phone number and a message; the handbook form adds the name of the item you selected. Both also carry a tick box, which has to be ticked before the form will send, confirming you want a reply and browser notifications. No card number, bank detail or address is ever entered on this site, because no payment is processed here.
When you submit it, the details are passed to OneSignal, the notification service this site uses, and held against your subscription there: the email address, the name, the phone number if you gave one, and the first part of your message. OneSignal processes them on my instructions and under its own terms, and that is the whole of the delivery path. The same details are then used to write back to you and to send the notifications you agreed to, and for nothing else.
The legal basis is your own request to be contacted, and for an order, the steps you ask me to take before entering into a contract and then the performance of it. Messages are kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period after, in case the same question comes back, and they are never used for marketing.
Order correspondence is kept a little longer than a general enquiry, because a question about a purchase can arrive months later and Australian consumer guarantees do not expire on delivery. It is not used for anything except answering you and delivering the file.
The form also carries a field that is hidden from people and only ever completed by automated submissions. If it arrives filled in, the message is discarded without being read.
Who else is involved
Only the services that genuinely deliver the site:
- The hosting provider, which stores these files and serves them to your browser.
- Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site as a content delivery network and necessarily processes request data to do so.
- OneSignal, which delivers browser notifications and holds the form details described above.
Fonts and stylesheets are served from this domain. The only script loaded from anywhere else is the OneSignal notification SDK; there is no font service, no tag manager and no social widget on any page. Information about readers is not sold, rented or traded, because there is nothing here to sell it for.
Links out to the app stores
The guides link to official Google Play and App Store listings. The moment you follow one of those links you are on Google's or Apple's site and their privacy terms apply instead of this one. Nothing comes back to Alderviq from that visit and there is no way for this site to know whether you installed anything.
How long things are kept
Delivery logs are held for a short operational period and then discarded or reduced to aggregate counts. Correspondence is kept while it is live and for a reasonable period afterwards. Your cookie answer stays in your browser until you clear your browsing data, and you can remove it yourself at any time.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may ask for access to the personal information held about you and ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong. Write to [email protected]; the answer normally comes within 30 days.
If you are unhappy with how a privacy matter was handled, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Readers in the European Union may also approach their own supervisory authority.
Changes to this page
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything material is described in the opening paragraph for a period afterwards.
